I acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the land on which these images were captured. I pay my respects the Quandamooka people and their Elders, past, present and emerging. I recognise their continuing connection to the land, waters and culture of Minjerribah (North Stradbroke Island) and its surrounds.
Today, on International Womens Day, I thought that there was nothing more fitting than to share this epic gallery from a fellow badass woman. A few months ago, the beautiful Erin Bigg reached out to me about a concept she had been dreaming up and was ready to release to the world. Erin had spent 2020 training in yoga and meditation (and in previous years had done Reiki, Crystal Healing and Tarot) and had envisioned weaving it all together by creating a magical offering called Soul Retrieval.
Erin and I had gone back and forth during the planning process, and she explained to me that the idea was still in its infancy – so she had an idea of what she wanted, but she actually wasn’t certain how the photoshoot would look and didn’t have an pre-conceived ideas of what the results would look like. We both had this strong inner-knowing that it would come together on the day, and we’d just intuitively follow our creative flow to get the ball rolling. And GOSH DARNIT, can I just say how amazing it is to intuitively create with someone who is vibing on the same frequency as you? 💫
When I’m shooting in wild locations, I don’t often care much about superficial “aesthetics”. I don’t shoot pretty people in pretty locations and hope for the best. I try to get my subjects (as well as myself) to truly and deeply CONNECT with that land and space! Erin has always felt a deep connection to Minjerribah so it made that connection so much easier, and I hope you can see and feel that in these images, too.
