I’m a bit old school in the fact that I usually journal my thoughts when I’m travelling, via the old age “pen and pad”, but occasionally I will share my thoughts with you. You may find them here 🙂 Enjoy.

ICELAND RING ROAD IN 10 DAYS

"As I peer out of the plane window, my gaze is met with giant peaks of white, enveloping the Winter land below and peeking out through the clouds that surround it. It is my first glimpse of what I presume is Vatnajökull - Europes largest glacier ice cap that covers 8% of Iceland (although it seems like much more). Immediately I am mesmerised by this magnificent landscape and for a moment it seems as though I can see the outline of the country in its...

Nikitas Arctic Top 20

When I first booked my tickets to Scandinavia and the Arctic, the first thing I did was establish my Arctic Top 20 - Or my Nordic Bucket List! I had never seen the snow before, so a lot of my bucket list items are probably really boring to most people, but they were all something that my heart was aching to experience! For as long as I can remember, I had dreamed of some day exploring Norway and the Arctic Circle. Lands long dominated by family...

USA Road Trip

A year ago today, we were boarding a flight to the States for our 3 week USA Road Trip through California, Nevada, Utah and Arizona. I know this, because it managed to sneak its way in to my Facebook "Memories" feed today - so what better way to remember the trip, than to blog about it!   As I sit here trying to jig my brain, I am swarmed by a million memories of the trip - some are good, a LOT are bad. Nothing about America made the bad...

Northern Territory Outback

When I returned from my ultimate bucket list trip (to Scandinavia), I made a promise to myself to make an effort to explore more of my own backyard. We have so many spectacular places to see, here in Australia, yet us Aussies are always so eager to escape to ANY country other than our own. So, to scope out a new found appreciation for this vast landscape - we made a spur of the moment decision to pack our bags, escape the Brisbane Winter, and...

Lofoten Islands

The Lofoten Islands: What can I say? Other than WOW!!! Positively the most spectacular place I have ventured on my travels. After spending a few days in Trondheim, I decided last minute to take the Hurtigruten coastal steamer up through the islands and onwards to Lofoten. The cruise itself was phenomenal, and I could have easily stayed on board for another week, sailing the Norwegian coastline and its ever-changing landscapes. A snippet from my journey aboard the Hurtigruten reads below "I came here to write. But with...

Abisko

While I was on my "Chase the Northern Lights" tour of Scandinavia, the one place I was really itching to go was Abisko. Upon my previous research of the Northern Lights, I had read that Abisko was a popular destination because it is a location that has fairly "decent" weather - and when you actually start trying to "chase" the lights, you begin to realise just how appealing this becomes. A frustrating part of the chase, is the weather. You cannot guarantee a viewing of...

Why do I travel?

Nothing beats the feeling of stillness. To sit alone, amongst a beautiful landscape, with nothing but your thoughts. Perched above a Valley, a Fjord, a Canyon or a City, and you start to slow your mind. You revel in all of your senses as you mindfully close your eyes. You take in everything around you. The smell in the air, the sound of the wind gently making its way through this foreign land, the feeling of the sun or snow as it melts in to your skin....
